SATOSHI NAKAMOTO BITCOIN CREATOR
During a recent Lex Fridman podcast, SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that he believes the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, is likely American computer scientist and cryptographer Nick Szabo. Elon Musk also disavowed a long standing rumour that he was in fact Satoshi, adding that he is ‘definitely’ not the Bitcoin creator and would have told the world by now if he was.
Musk and Fridman covered a wide range of interesting topics before discussing blockchain technology and the implications for the world. Elon Musk said “Well, you can look at the evolution of ideas before the launch of bitcoin and see who wrote about those ideas… It seems as though Nick Szabo is probably, more than anyone else, responsible for the evolution of those ideas.”
Nick Szabo, now 56, was the first to develop smart contracts, a transaction protocol that automatically executes, controls or documents a legally relevant event and action according to the terms of an electronic contract.
He also created an earlier form of cryptocurrency called BitGold, which was founded in 1998. Many consider this to be the brains behind Bitcoin’s blockchain ledger based code and is said to be fundamental to the Ethereum blockchain.
Satoshi Linguistics Analysis
In 2014 a team of researchers from The Aston University Centre for Forensic Linguistics conducted linguistics analysis on Satoshi’s Bitcoin whitepaper to determine the anonymous Bitcoin creators identity, according to The US Sun. Based on their analysis, the team came to the conclusion that Szabo was the person behind the Satoshi pseudonym.
Other blockchain and cryptographic experts also believe that he is the creator of Bitcoin. Despite this however, Szabo has always denied this. In 2014, Szabo said in an interview that: “I’m afraid you got it wrong doxing me as Satoshi, but I’m used to it”, as reported by The US Sun.
